Prejudice: An Experiment in Understanding

In the late 1960's, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was killed fighting for the rights of African Americans in the United States. His assasination lead to riots and anger across the nation. One teacher decided to teach her third grade class what it meant to be treated different because of eye colour. Her experiement was done in an all white school and was meant to teach her third graders what prejudice is about. The experiment went too well. Within hours of the experiment begnining, her beautiful grade 3 class had turned into bogots and racisit agains each other. It was an astonishing turn of events, one the Jane Elliott never imaged would happen. Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Study

As we have seen in class, the Zimbardo Stanford Prison Study and the Milgrim Shock Obedience study were very contraversial but are also very important for us to understand that we cannot follow blindly with requests by authority. Thirty years later, this experiment is still relevant with the goings on at the Abu Grab Prison in Iraq.
